Dear Diary - August 31, 2006

Dear Diary,

I have so much to tell you since the last time I wrote.

I have been in my forever home for about 2 weeks now and I am loving it! The big guy, Daddy, gives me food and fresh water everyday before he walks out the door. Just when I think that I am never going to see him again, Daddy comes back. I have to let Daddy think that I am happy to see him when he comes back, so I squawk the minute I see him. I don't think Daddy can open the door after he's been gone all day because Nono or Dontdothat open the door for him. Poor Daddy, he must work awful hard not to be able to open the door himself.

Once Daddy weaves his way past Nono, Dontdothat, and this furry thing with four legs they call, Mo, he kisses Mommy and then goes to change his clothes. When he comes back out I squawk some more. Daddy is happy to see me, after all I am beautiful. He picks me up and he talks to me. He tells me what a pretty bird I am, that's how I know that I am beautiful. I hope Daddy never stops calling me beautiful. And should anyone happen upon my diary I have this to say: Don't hate me because I'm beautiful. Daddy is amazed at how much I have changed in the two weeks that I have been with him.

I don't always make it easy on Daddy even though he is a good man and takes good care of me. There are days that I make Daddy work, and I mean WORK, for affection. I will give kisses to Mommy, Nono, and Dontdothat and when Daddy wants kisses I run away. Sometimes, I look at Daddy like he has two heads and is crazy for wanting my affection. I can understand why he wants my affection, after all I am beau...oh, I've said that before? Hmmm. Oh, but as I was saying, Daddy is a good man - he will come get me after he gets home and takes me to this big round thing that Mommy puts food on for us. He gives me a little bit of whatever he is eating. So far I have had broccoli (not sure about this), tortilla (yummy), egg (Oh, I like this a lot), ginger snaps (not sure about this), mashed potatoes (these were ok), and iced tea (yum). He sure is a good Daddy.

Daddy came home the other night and didn't want anything to do with me, Nono, Dontdothat, Mo, or Mommy. Everyone wanted his attention but he sat on the couch and put this big blue bag on his face. The blue bag was on, then off, then on, then off again. I didn't get any Daddy time that night. Something about losing wisdom or something like that. The next day Daddy seemed a little better, he didn't go to work and I got to be with Daddy off and on as I exhibited my independence and flew to him, to my cage, to Mommy, to my cage, back to Daddy. I don't think Daddy liked that very much.

After a while, I got to go on my first field trip. We drove to this big building and picked up Dontdothat and Nono. They were excited to see me. I am getting used to them. Sometimes they drive me crazy though. They drive Mommy crazy too, because I hear her tell them so. After Nono got in the car we went to a store that had other birds and furry things. Daddy held me kinda tight and walked up to this lady and said something about trimming. Daddy is getting kinda shaggy. Was I in for a surprise! The lady asked Daddy if I was friendly. Daddy told her that I was friendly to him. I went to her and she took me in the back. A few minutes later I squawked and then she took me back out to Daddy. She told Daddy I was a very nice and friendly bird. I left her a little souvenir. Afterward, Daddy didn't hold onto me so tight and I tried to be independent. *GASP* I couldn't believe it, I just fluttered to the ground. Daddy said no more flying. I found out later that he just wants me to be safe so I don't get caught up in this spinning thing on the ceiling. Daddy felt bad for putting me through the whole ordeal - must have been my pitiful squawking - so he bought me a toy. Note to self: I need to learn to be more pitiful!

Daddy did the silliest thing to Dontdothat last night. Sometimes she makes me crazy. She wanted to pet me but I didn't want her to touch me. Daddy called her over to him and started poking her in the face. He asked her if she liked it. She said she didn't and Daddy said that is how I felt when she did that to me. I like my Daddy, he takes good care of me.

Well, that's it for now Dear Diary, it's late and I have to go to bed.

will you ever learn thier real names?
its going to be fun watching you grow up thru your eyes, not us slaves and our birds that are now so much older than you. keep it up. its fun to see you grow.

I hope my mamma doesn't read this and get any ideas. She mumbled something about my flight feathers...??? I know she's going to make sure I don't get to that swirly thing on the ceiling either

Wonderful, Quetzal. I'm so happy you're happy. I have small things round my house sometimes like Nono and Dontdothat. I don't like them at all. I got into lots of trouble last week when I bit one of them really hard...of course, he always screams when I land on him, so what does daddy expect? Mommy understands me, though. I think she thinks it's kind of funny, but I wouldn't tell her that.

By the way, I'm beautiful too!

    Quetzal,
I just adore your diary. You must be so so smart. I'm not allowed near the puter, cause one day I popped all the keys off. I was so proud of myself. Trouble is, nobody else was and I got in hot water over it. I'm not allowed near the puter any more so I'd better finish this before I get caught.
Write more. I love reading your adventures.
    Your friend Sweetie
